Chennai, April 29:
Ahead of the vote counting for the 2026 Assembly elections, election authorities have completed the distribution of postal ballots for all 234 constituencies across Tamil Nadu, ensuring preparedness for a smooth counting process.
To streamline logistics, a centralized distribution system was established in Tiruchirappalli, where postal ballots from across the State were collected, sorted and dispatched district-wise. Officials said this approach helped avoid delays and ensured timely delivery to respective constituencies.
A dedicated facility near the central bus stand in Tiruchirappalli functioned as the main hub, where ballots were segregated constituency-wise and district-wise before being handed over to authorised personnel.
The distribution was carried out in phases. In the first phase on April 13, ballots were dispatched to districts. From April 20 onwards, sorting and redistribution began, while the final phase on April 28 saw successful distribution to all 38 districts.
Senior election authorities inaugurated the process in the presence of district officials, while representatives of recognised political parties and candidatesā agents were also present to ensure transparency.
Following sorting, the ballots were handed over to district-level coordination officers, who transported them securely to their destinations. Officials confirmed that proper verification and acknowledgment procedures were followed throughout.
The structured and phased approach is expected to facilitate an efficient and transparent counting process, with postal ballots playing a crucial role in determining early trends on counting day.
