Tehran, Aug 13:
Iran could deliberately prolong its conflict with the United States until President Donald Trump leaves office, a senior adviser to the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said.
Mohammad Reza Naqdi said prolonging the war would impose costs on the US, strengthen Iran’s deterrence and ensure that any future adversary understands the consequences of attacking Iran.
Speaking to PBS NewsHour, Naqdi said Iran believes it is currently winning the conflict but has yet to achieve its final objective. He said Tehran could use a prolonged war to gain further experience in fighting the US military and build deterrence.
“One way is to prolong this war until we get to the next term of the presidency and cause attrition,” Naqdi said, adding that the aim was to make any country considering an attack on Iran aware that there would be a cost.
Naqdi also claimed that Iran was producing more missiles each day than it was launching and could continue manufacturing and firing them even if the conflict lasted for years.
