Chennai, June 8: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has introduced facial recognition technology in the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026, marking a major step toward ensuring transparency and preventing impersonation during one of India’s most competitive exams. The preliminary examination, conducted on May 24, was held across 2,072 centres nationwide for recruitment to prestigious services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS). Chennai,  June 8: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has announced the successful completion of the final U-girder casting for Corridor 5 under its ambitious Phase II Metro Rail Project, marking a major milestone in Chennai’s expanding urban transit infrastructure. The last U-girder, measuring 19.5 metres in length, was cast for the Adambakkam Metro Station stretch in coordination with project consultant AECOM and contractor Larsen & Toubro (L&T). Manali, the industrial hub in North Chennai, has emerged as the most severe hotspot for ground-level ozone pollution in India, according to recent data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The alarming trend has raised serious concerns among environmental experts and public health authorities. A monitoring station in Manali recorded a dangerously high ozone concentration of 500 micrograms per cubic metre on May 19.
