17th day darshan of Athi Varadar: Lord adorned with athi fruit garland

Chennai: There is no let-up in the rush of pilgrims and devotees to Kanchipuram to have darshan of Lord Athi Varadar. Today marks the 17th day that the idol was taken out of the Sri Varadaraja Perumal temple tank and kept for public darshan in the Vasantha Mandapam.

The deity was beautifully decorated as usual. He was adorned with yellow silk and a green silk, with brown border, added to the charm.

Apart from the colourful flowers that were used for garlands, what stood out today was a garland made of athi (fig) fruits as it is believed that the Varadar idol is made of fig wood (Athi Varadar).
