The devastating impact of the cyclone has left over 1.2 crore people grappling with floods, claiming 17 lives and causing extensive damage to properties.Highlighting the severity of the situation, Baalu emphasized that this flood, after 47 years, has resulted in widespread inundation, with water levels rising beyond four feet across the affected areas. The urgency of the matter was underscored by the challenges faced in delivering essential supplies, as relief materials and even food had to be transported via boats.Expressing concern over the delay in declaring the calamity, Baalu stated, “I thought the Home Ministry would have done it by now.” He urged the central government to promptly declare the situation a national calamity, a move that would trigger coordinated efforts and resources to address the aftermath of the disaster.The cyclonic storm Michaung made landfall, crossing the south Andhra Pradesh coast on Tuesday, with its maximum impact felt on Monday in Chennai and neighboring areas of Tamil Nadu. The repercussions of the cyclonic system continue to pose threats to southern districts of Odisha and eastern Telangana, prompting ongoing alerts.Baalu stressed the need for swift action from the Government of India, urging the deployment of assessment teams to evaluate the extent of the damage. He called for immediate relief measures to alleviate the suffering of the affected population, emphasizing the importance of timely intervention to prevent further loss of life and property.
