TN Rains: Stalin writes to Rajnath Singh for intervention

Chennai: In the wake of unprecedented rainfall in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister MK Stalin has urgently sought the intervention of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to bolster rescue efforts.

In a letter addressed to Singh, Chief Minister Stalin highlighted that certain areas in southern Tamil Nadu have experienced the highest rainfall since 1871. Particularly, the districts of Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi, home to a population of 40 lakh people, have been severely affected.

Stalin provided a briefing on the ongoing rescue mission, stating that the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are actively engaged in operations. Additionally, to enhance the rescue efforts, four helicopters from the Indian Air Force, and two each from the Navy and Coast Guard, have been deployed to evacuate stranded individuals.

Expressing the gravity of the situation, Stalin urgently requested Minister Singh to deploy the “maximum number of helicopters immediately” to facilitate swift and effective rescue operations in the inundated regions.
