The Madras High Court on Wednesday granted relief to DMK minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, party MP A Raja and another DMK leader over their comments about “eradicating Sanatana Dharma”. Notably, last year, DMK leaders Udhayanidhi Stalin and A Raja stirred controversy by making comments on ‘Sanatana Dharma’ and saying that it should be eradicated. The high court observed that Stalin’s and other leaders’ remarks were “wrong”, but noted that they had not been convicted by any court yet and dismissed the petition that challenged the continuation of them as legislators. “Equating Sanatana Dharma to HIV, malaria, and dengue is against constitutional principles and amounts to spreading misinformation and is against constitutional principles and amounts to spreading misinformation,” the High Court said.
