The General Secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Edappadi K Palaniswami, shed light on the party’s ongoing discussions with potential allies and addressed various political issues during a recent interaction with journalists. Palaniswami confirmed that talks with the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) regarding a possible alliance are underway. However, he remained ambiguous regarding talks with the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), stating that discussions with the former ally have not yet reached a decisive stage. His response hinted at potential challenges or disagreements in the alliance talks with the PMK. Refuting reports of advanced talks between the PMK and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Palaniswami dismissed them as “media hype.” He refrained from commenting further on the matter, citing his inability to speak about other parties’ political strategies. Taking a swipe at the opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Palaniswami asserted the strength of the AIADMK and its alliance, boasting about the party’s loyal cadres and robust support base among the people of Tamil Nadu, including minorities. He expressed confidence that this support would translate into electoral success in the upcoming polls. Addressing accusations from Chief Minister M K Stalin regarding his integrity, Palaniswami highlighted ongoing investigations into the international drug cartel involving former DMK functionary Jaffer Sadiq. He suggested that the outcome of these investigations would reveal who truly upholds honesty and integrity in politics. Palaniswami reaffirmed the AIADMK’s commitment to the welfare of Muslims, emphasizing the party’s role as their custodian. He criticized the DMK’s alleged double standards on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and reiterated the AIADMK’s steadfast stance in safeguarding the interests of minorities.
