The Madras High Court has raised critical questions about a fake NCC camp held in Krishnagiri district, during which schoolgirls were allegedly subjected to sexual harassment. A petition filed by advocate Suryaprakasham sought the transfer of the investigation to the CBI.The petition was heard by a bench comprising Justices D. Krishnakumar and P. B. Balaji. Additional Advocate General Ravindran and Chief Public Prosecutor Hassan Mohammed Jinnah represented the government in the case.
The court was informed that three cases have been registered in connection with incidents at four schools, and interim charge sheets have been filed. A special officer has already been appointed for one school, with another to be appointed next week for the second school, and action is being taken against the other two schools as well.
The judges questioned whether permission was obtained from the district education officer for conducting the NCC camp and why action against the school administrations was taken without consulting senior NCC officials. The court also inquired why girls from other schools were brought to the fake camp.
The Additional Advocate General responded that permission from senior NCC officials should have been obtained but was not.
Advocate Suryaprakasham accused the government of withholding critical information regarding the case. The judges then asked why the police had not thoroughly investigated key aspects of the fake NCC camp.
It was revealed during the investigation that Sivaraman, the accused, had taken the students to his office, where the harassment occurred. He also allegedly took the students to Mysuru, Puducherry, and Mamallapuram, where further incidents took place.
The court ordered the submission of a comprehensive report on the investigation. The hearing was adjourned to next week, and the judges directed the State Legal Services Authority to take steps to compensate the victims.
