Annamalai criticises DMK govt for neglect of farmers

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai criticized the DMK government for neglecting farmers and prioritizing unnecessary expenditures like erecting statues.
In a statement shared on X, Annamalai highlighted the ongoing plight of farmers in the delta region during the monsoon season. “Every year, samba crops in the delta region are affected by floods due to the government’s failure to desilt irrigation canals, despite repeated pleas from farmers. This year, nearly 2,000 acres of samba crops have been damaged due to floods,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of agriculture in the delta region for Tamil Nadu’s self-sufficiency in food production. “Despite its significance, the DMK government shows no concern for this critical issue and focuses solely on wasteful expenditures such as erecting statues,” he added.
Annamalai accused Chief Minister Stalin of taking credit for the compensation provided by the Union Government under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. He alleged that the CM considers his job done by issuing publicity for these relief measures, while neglecting the persistent flood issues faced by farmers.
The BJP leader urged the DMK government to provide immediate relief of ₹40,000 per acre to the affected farmers and undertake desilting of irrigation canals across Tamil Nadu on a war footing. “The continuous suffering of farmers due to flooding highlights the government’s lack of commitment to addressing this critical issue,” he concluded.
