Power loom owners call off protest after talks

The prolonged protest by power loom owners demanding a wage hike and other related benefits has finally come to an end. The decision to withdraw the protest was made following successful negotiations with a committee of Tamil Nadu government ministers.
The power loom owners, who had been on strike for the past 33 days, agreed to suspend their agitation after ministers Saminathan, Senthil Balaji, and Kayalvizhi Selvaraj held talks with representatives of the industry. The discussions reportedly concluded on a positive note, with assurances given regarding key demands raised by the loom owners.
Following the announcement, the power loom owners stated that a general body meeting would be convened tomorrow to decide on resuming loom operations. The strike, which significantly affected the textile sector, is estimated to have caused a loss of nearly Rs. 1,000 crore over the past month.
Minister Saminathan confirmed that the protest had officially been called off and expressed satisfaction over the smooth conduct of the talks. The resolution has brought relief to many in the textile hubs of Tamil Nadu, where the industry plays a vital role in employment and exports.
