In the capital city of Chennai, Meenambakkam recorded a temperature of 100°F, adding to the discomfort of residents who are already grappling with high humidity and power outages in some areas.
The unrelenting heat has raised concerns about public health, particularly for the elderly, children, and those engaged in outdoor work. Authorities have advised the public to stay indoors during peak hours, remain hydrated, and avoid direct sun exposure to prevent heatstroke and dehydration.
With no immediate respite in sight, weather experts predict that the heatwave conditions may persist over the coming days, urging people to take necessary precautions. The state government is also reportedly monitoring the situation and may issue heat advisories if temperatures continue to rise.
