The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has extended its search operations into a second consecutive day at the residence of a relative of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, located in Chennai. These raids are part of a broader investigation into alleged financial irregularities associated with the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC), the state-run liquor distribution entity.According to sources, Akash—believed to be a close relative of Chief Minister Stalin—is said to be producing films simultaneously starring Dhanush, Simbu, Sivakarthikeyan, and Atharvaa, with a combined investment of over ₹500 crore.
The ED’s actions follow a directive from the Madras High Court on April 23, 2025, which criticized attempts to impede the agency’s investigation into the purported ₹1,000 crore TASMAC scam. The court’s order has reinvigorated the probe, leading to searches at multiple locations, including the residence of TASMAC Managing Director S. Visakan and other individuals connected to the case.
During the raids, ED officials reportedly recovered documents and digital evidence, including printouts of WhatsApp conversations related to liquor procurement and tender processes. The agency has also conducted searches at various other premises linked to the TASMAC investigation.
Opposition parties, including the AIADMK and BJP, have pointed to these raids as indicative of deeper issues within the state’s administration. The AIADMK highlighted the targeting of individuals close to the DMK leadership, suggesting a pattern of favoritism and corruption.
The ED’s ongoing investigation aims to uncover the extent of financial misconduct within TASMAC and its associated entities. Further developments are anticipated as the agency continues its scrutiny of the involved parties.
