The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has strongly opposed a petition filed by suspended police inspector S. Sridhar, who sought to turn approver in the high-profile Sathankulam custodial death case.Sridhar, one of the main accused in the brutal deaths of father-son duo Jayaraj and Bennicks in 2020, had filed a request at the Madurai CBI court to become an approver, claiming he was not directly involved and willing to assist the investigation.
However, the CBI told the court that Sridhar was deeply involved in the crime and had played a key role during the incident. They argued that his actions were not minor and that allowing him to turn approver would weaken the case against other accused officers.
The custodial deaths sparked massive public outrage and led to the transfer of the case to the CBI. The next hearing is scheduled soon, where the court will decide on Sridhar’s plea.
