The AIADMK, led by general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, has announced a major protest in Tirupur on November 25, criticizing the DMK government for what it termed as a total collapse of essential civic services in the city.Palaniswami issued a scathing statement against the Tirupur Corporation and district administration, blaming them for failing to restore roads dug up during the installation of drinking water pipelines and sewer infrastructure. He highlighted that this negligence had resulted in hazardous potholes and frequent accidents, disproportionately affecting women, children, and two-wheeler commuters.
The AIADMK chief noted a sharp increase in the city’s garbage tax by 150 per cent, labeling it as “extortion” amid growing household expenses.
He condemned the authorities for penalizing residents who do not segregate waste, arguing that the focus should be on improving the waste management system instead.
With uncollected garbage accumulating across multiple wards, Palaniswami asserted that Tirupur—once called Dollar City—had now devolved into a “garbage city,” posing serious health hazards to the public.
In addition to civic issues, Palaniswami voiced alarm over alleged intimidation of Booth Level Officers during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
He accused DMK ministers, MPs, MLAs, and local representatives of interfering in the Election Commission’s operations and overlooking irregularities in voter verification, claiming that the ruling party was misusing official machinery for political gain.
The AIADMK’s protest on November 25 is intended to draw attention to what it describes as administrative incompetence, indifference, and political vendetta undermining Tirupur’s infrastructure and governance.
