A wreath-laying ceremony was held in Chennai to pay homage to the bravehearts on the occasion of Vijay Diwas, marking India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war. Maj Gen RM Srinivas, the Officiating GOC Dakshin Bharat Area, laid a wreath along with FOTNA, AOCTambaram, and DIG ICG Chennai to honour the supreme sacrifice of the soldiers. In his message, Maj Gen Srinivas recalled the historic victory, lauded the valour and professionalism of the Indian Armed Forces, and urged the youth to uphold the ideals of duty, honour, and nation. The commemoration witnessed participation by 80 school children, 80 NCC cadets, 35 veterans, and Armed Forces personnel.Meanwhile, 54 Senior Division NCC cadets from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are undergoing an Army Attachment Camp at the Madras Regimental Centre, Wellington, which will conclude on December 21. A defence release said the cadets are experiencing the Army up close—its training, ethos, discipline, and the glorious legacy of the Madras Regiment.
Activities include drill, firing on latest-generation simulators, basic tactics, obstacle crossing, and navigation, along with sessions on the Army’s role in nation-building and disaster response. Beyond training, cadets participated in sports, rock climbing, co-curricular activities, Swachhata Pakhwada, and a tree plantation drive, fostering leadership, teamwork, and social responsibility. The camp reflects the Indian Army’s mission of shaping responsible citizens for the nation.
