In a notable political development, former Tamil Nadu minister K. P. Krishnan has officially joined the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the party led by actor-politician Vijay, as the state prepares for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
The event took place at a TVK workers’ meeting in Mamallapuram, where Krishnan was inducted into the party in the presence of TVK president Vijay. His entry reflects shifting alignments within Tamil Nadu’s political landscape as parties intensify their mobilisation efforts ahead of the polls.
Political Journey of K. P. Krishnan
Krishnan has had a long political career. He served as Agriculture Minister in the J. Jayalalithaa-led government between 1991 and 1996. During that period, he was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from constituencies including Alangudi and Srirangam.
Over the years, he was associated with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) but later left the party to launch his own political outfit named Tamilar Boomi. After dissolving that party, he rejoined the AIADMK. However, amid internal party divisions—particularly within the faction aligned to O. Panneerselvam (OPS)—Krishnan’s loyalties shifted again. He was active in OPS’s camp within AIADMK before ultimately deciding to leave and join TVK
