Intense war drama
Set against the turbulent backdrop of 1988 Sri Lanka during the IPKF deployment, this debut film by Someetharan delivers a gripping and emotionally layered war drama that thrives on restraint rather than spectacle. By confining most of its narrative to a single house over one night, the film transforms a simple premise into a powerful chamber piece filled with tension, uncertainty, and human complexity.
The story begins with a family preparing for a wedding, only to have their home taken over by Indian Army soldiers, leading to a tense hostage situation. What stands out is the film’s refusal to paint characters in extremes—both the soldiers and the family are portrayed with nuance, vulnerability, and quiet strength. As rebels surround the house, the narrative deepens into a three-way standoff, with personal histories adding emotional weight to the unfolding conflict.
The film features a strong ensemble cast including Naveen Chandra, Sananth, Roopa Koduvayur, Kapila Venu, Vidhu, Sidhu Kumaresan and Rohit Kokate. Produced by Kaarthikeyan S, the film is anchored by powerful performances and atmospheric storytelling.
Visually compelling and tightly paced, it stands out for its immersive sound design and understated direction. More than a war drama, the film offers a poignant reflection on how conflict reshapes ordinary lives, leaving behind a haunting cinematic experience.
