Chennai, Apr 8:
The Madras High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the allotment of a reserved election symbol to a candidate from another party, refusing to intervene in the matter during the ongoing election process.
The plea had raised concerns over the allocation of reserved symbols, alleging that such symbols were being assigned to candidates not officially representing the recognised political party. It sought directions to the Election Commission of India to regulate and prevent such allotments.
However, the court declined to entertain the petition, observing that the allocation of election symbols falls within the jurisdiction of the Election Commission. It emphasized that judicial interference at this stage of the election process would not be appropriate.
With this, the High Court effectively rejected the petitionerās request, reiterating the autonomy of the Election Commission in handling matters related to symbol allocation and election procedures.
