Washington,  Apr 10:

After the United States and Iran agreed to a temporary ceasefire deal, social media platforms were flooded with posts from users in Pakistan claiming that their country had emerged as the world’s “peacemaker.” These posts, many shared on X (formerly Twitter), featured near‑identical messages celebrating Pakistani travellers being greeted as global peacemakers at international airports—a trend that quickly drew widespread criticism and ridicule.

Across X, a large number of posts followed a very similar pattern: a Pakistani passport holder landing abroad and being welcomed with praise for brokering peace. The uniformity of the posts sparked suspicions of a coordinated campaign, with several netizens labelling it as copy‑paste propaganda rather than spontaneous commentary.

The online reaction was sharp. Many users from India and Iran mocked the trend, pointing out that the posts looked scripted and lacked credibility. Some even joked that the alleged peacemaker narrative had backfired, turning into a source of humour and memes instead of diplomatic praise.

Reports also highlighted related social media controversies involving Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ceasefire post, which briefly included the word “Draft” on X before being edited—fueling further debate over the authenticity and handling of messaging around the ceasefire.

While Pakistan’s role as a facilitator in helping bring the US and Iran to the negotiating table has been acknowledged in official discussions, the social media reaction reflects how online perceptions can complicate diplomatic narratives.
