Chennai, May 1:
The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Thursday issued an advisory assuring candidates that biometric verification issues will not bar them from appearing for the NEET (UG) 2026, scheduled to be held on May 3.
In a public notice, the agency clarified that candidates facing biometric authentication failures due to device malfunction, poor data quality, connectivity issues with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), or physical inability to provide biometric data will still be allowed to enter the examination hall. However, such candidates will be required to submit a written undertaking in a prescribed format at the exam centre.
The NTA emphasised that while biometric verification remains a mandatory step after frisking, no candidate will be disadvantaged due to procedural or technical lapses. The move comes amid concerns over last-mile disruptions, with the agency aiming to ensure a smooth and stress-free examination process.
Issuing detailed guidelines, the NTA advised candidates to adhere strictly to the prescribed dress code and report well in advance to facilitate smooth security checks.
Aspirants are permitted to carry transparent water bottles and wear articles of faith. While light clothing is recommended, candidates requiring full-sleeved or woollen garments have been asked to report early to avoid delays during frisking.
Footwear guidelines specify the use of slippers or low-heeled sandals to streamline the security process. The agency reiterated that cooperation with exam staff and timely reporting would help ensure seamless conduct of the examination.
Importantly, the NTA stated that candidates will not be disturbed during the examination hours from 2 pm to 5 pm. For Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), this protection extends up to 6 pm, wherever applicable.
Reassuring candidates, the agency underlined its commitment to conducting the examination in a fair and transparent manner without causing undue stress to aspirants.
