Chennai, May 9:
Amid rapidly unfolding political developments in Tamil Nadu, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday firmly distanced itself from any attempt to form a government, stating that it neither has the mandate nor the intention to support any alliance in the current scenario.
BJP national general secretary (organisation) B. L. Santhosh remarked that the question of who will eventually form the government remains uncertain. He added that while the situation is still evolving, the Congress is likely to face political embarrassment as events unfold.
Reinforcing the partyâs stand, BJP state president Nainar Nagendran said the party respects the verdict delivered by the people in the Assembly elections and will stay away from the ongoing political manoeuvring triggered by the fractured mandate. He made it clear that the BJP will neither play a direct role in government formation nor support any party in such efforts.
âWe do not want to be part of any attempt to form the government, and we will not vote in favour of any party involved in such an exercise,â he stated, underlining the partyâs decision to remain neutral during this critical phase.
During a party meeting chaired by Nainar Nagendran, BJP leaders reviewed the election results, assessed the reasons behind their performance, and discussed the current political situation. The emergence of C. Joseph Vijay and his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam as a significant force in the electoral landscape was also a key point of discussion.
Meanwhile, BJP state chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing it of remaining silent during the DMK regime despite issues such as crimes against women, law and order concerns, and the drug menace. He also alleged that attempts were being made to shift blame onto the BJP and Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar amid the ongoing post-election turmoil.
With the BJP stepping aside and numbers still uncertain, the political situation in Tamil Nadu continues to remain fluid, as parties intensify efforts to secure the support needed to form the next government.
