Chennai, June 18:

Vaiko, General Secretary of MDMK, has stated that any decision regarding an alliance with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) will be taken only after consulting the party’s general council. He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the Secretariat after meeting Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

Vaiko said that discussions within the party will determine the future political alignment, and no final decision has been made yet on joining or supporting TVK in any formal capacity. His comments come amid growing speculation about shifting alliances in Tamil Nadu politics.

During the interaction, Vaiko also raised concerns over reports that a “Green Copper” project linked to the Sterlite plant in Thoothukudi could be revived. He urged the state government not to permit any such reopening, reiterating his long-standing opposition to the Sterlite copper plant issue.

He further said that the Sterlite plant was originally shut down based on intelligence inputs during the previous administration, and alleged that earlier governments had shown indirect support to the company despite public opposition.

Vaiko also informed that he is planning to compile his parliamentary speeches into a six-part book series, which is scheduled for release on August 4 in Delhi. He said he has requested the Chief Minister to attend the launch event and receive the first copy of the publication.

He thanked the Chief Minister for allocating 45 minutes for the meeting, calling it a satisfying and meaningful interaction.

Responding to questions about reports of possible resignations by MDMK MLAs, Vaiko said he could not comment at this stage.

The statements come at a politically sensitive time, with discussions over alliance formation, party positioning, and legislative developments gaining momentum ahead of the upcoming Assembly session.
