Chennai, June 22:
The student wing of the DMK has announced a protest in Chennai on June 23 opposing NEET and the Union government’s language policy, alleging that both issues have adversely affected students nationwide.
In a statement, student wing secretary J. Veeramani said concerns over NEET continue due to repeated controversies and alleged irregularities, which have caused stress and uncertainty among students. The organisation also pointed to reports of student suicides linked to exam-related pressure.
Reiterating Tamil Nadu’s long-standing demand for exemption from NEET, the DMK said Assembly resolutions seeking relief have not received any response from the Centre.
The party also accused the Union government of promoting Hindi and Sanskrit through educational policies. It cited reported moves to expand Sanskrit instruction in CBSE schools and warned that such measures could undermine regional languages.
Affirming its commitment to the state’s two-language policy, the DMK said language decisions should remain with states and stressed the need to protect linguistic diversity.
The protest is scheduled to take place near the Karunanidhi arch in Saidapet at 9 am on June 23, demanding the abolition of NEET and opposing what it termed as attempts to impose Hindi and Sanskrit through the education system.
