A new low-pressure area has formed near Puducherry and is expected to merge with the existing system over North Tamil Nadu, bringing changes to the state’s weather pattern. Satellite and radar data indicate dense clouds moving northwest toward Chennai from Cuddalore and Puducherry.
As a result, rainfall activity is expected to decrease across the Cauvery Delta districts, where most parts currently remain dry. However, isolated light showers may occur in Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Puducherry. Meanwhile, the Kanchipuram-Tiruvallur- Chennai-Chengalpattu (KTCC) belt will see scattered rains, with Tiruvallur likely to receive heavier spells through the afternoon.
Suburban areas including Avadi, Poonamallee, and Ranipet may also experience intermittent rain until evening.
In Chennai, skies remain mostly cloudy with chances of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder in some regions. The Indian Meteorological Department’s local forecast predicts maximum temperatures around 30–31°C and minimum temperatures near 25°C, with light to moderate winds predominantly from the south. The system is also expected to bring heavy rainfall to Kanyakumari and adjoining coastal regions such as Kodiyakarai. The merging of the two low-pressure systems is causing temporary localized showers across several districts, though the intensity is likely to reduce by late evening.
Meteorologists have also forecast the formation of a new low-pressure system around October 25, which could bring renewed rainfall activity to Tamil Nadu and parts of coastal districts.
