Mathur Sathya, a former prominent functionary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), was arrested in Bengaluru and subsequently brought back to Chennai following a series of sexual harassment allegations. The arrest occurred shortly after the party high command took the decisive step of expelling him from all primary memberships on March 14, following an internal review of the complaints.
Investigators had been tracking Sathya’s movements after the formalization of the complaints by local authorities, which eventually led them to his location in Karnataka. The case has drawn significant attention due to his previous standing within the party and the swiftness of the police action once he was located across state lines.
Legal proceedings are now expected to move forward in Chennai, where the specific details of the allegations will be examined. The CPI has maintained a distance from the proceedings, reiterating that his expulsion was a direct result of the party’s zero-tolerance policy regarding such serious misconduct, regardless of an individual’s rank or history.
