Chennai, Apr 11:
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday asserted that seeking blessings by falling at the feet of elders is an integral part of Tamil Naduâs culture, responding to criticism from political opponents during the ongoing election campaign.
Addressing a public meeting, Palaniswami defended the practice, stating that it reflects respect and tradition deeply rooted in Tamil society. He emphasised that such gestures should not be misinterpreted or politicised, as they are a common cultural expression followed by many across the State.
His remarks come in the wake of repeated attacks from DMK leaders, including Udhayanidhi Stalin, who have criticised Palaniswami by referring to past instances where he was seen prostrating before former AIADMK leader V. K. Sasikala. The issue has become a talking point in the heated campaign ahead of the Assembly elections.
Hitting back at critics, Palaniswami maintained that showing respect to elders and leaders is part of Tamil tradition and should not be viewed through a political lens. He accused the DMK of diverting attention from governance issues by raising such matters during the campaign.
