The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a weather advisory warning of a rise in maximum temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in certain parts of Tamil Nadu over the next 24 hours. This increase is expected to impact both interior and coastal regions, leading to hotter conditions than usual for this time of year.In addition to the temperature rise, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is forecasted across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on September 21. Heavy rainfall is particularly expected in the districts of Tiruvallur, Ranipet, and Kancheepuram, raising concerns of localized flooding in low-lying areas.
The wet spell is expected to continue from September 22 to 27, with light to moderate showers persisting in several regions. In Chennai and surrounding areas, meteorologists predict partly cloudy skies with maximum temperatures hovering between 33-34°C and minimum temperatures around 26-27°C. Some areas of the city have already experienced early morning rain, providing brief relief from the warm weather.
The RMC has advised residents of the affected districts to stay cautious, particularly during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Authorities have also urged the public to take precautions against the expected rise in temperatures, especially in urban areas, where heat conditions can be exacerbated.
