The AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) has announced a massive human chain protest on October 8, demanding the immediate rollback of the recent property tax hike in Tamil Nadu. The party’s General Secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), released a statement outlining the concerns that have led to this demonstration.
In his statement, EPS criticized the ruling DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) government, accusing it of creating a law-and-order breakdown, causing skyrocketing prices, and infringing on the rights of traders. He claimed that the DMK administration has been involved in various anti-people activities, including the commercialization of the film industry and exerting control over the real estate sector. He expressed that the public is suffering due to the oppressive governance of Chief Minister MK Stalin and called for accountability.
Palaniswami emphasized that the AIADMK is committed to championing the welfare of the public. The party has consistently highlighted the corruption and irregularities occurring under DMK rule while also engaging in protests to advocate for the people’s rights. He cited a range of issues that have arisen during the DMK’s 40 months in power, including:

Frequent increases in the prices of essential goods like milk and food items. Inadequate supplies in fair price shops. A rise in lawlessness, with increasing incidents of violence and sexual assaults against women and children. The transformation of Tamil Nadu into a hub for drug-related activities. Decisions in the Chennai Municipal Corporation that privatize crematoriums. The announcement of a 6% annual increase in property tax, following previous hikes of 100% and 150%, which would further raise water and sewage connection charges, he said
