Tamil Nadu has witnessed a significant rise in COVID-19 cases, with the number of infections more than doubling in the span of a weekâfrom 32 on May 12 to 66 on May 19. The latest data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare highlights a sharp uptick in cases across the State, raising concerns among health authorities.According to official sources, 32 patients were discharged during the same period, indicating ongoing recovery efforts even as the number of fresh cases surges. The increase of 34 cases within a single week has pushed Tamil Nadu closer to the top of the national tally.
Kerala reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases this week, with a total of 95 casesâa jump of 69 from the previous week. Maharashtra followed closely, with cases rising from 12 to 56, placing the state third on the national list.
Nationwide, COVID-19 cases have risen considerably. The country recorded a total of 257 cases on Monday, marking an increase of 164 from the previous weekâs count of 93. Tamil Nadu, which topped the chart last week, saw a slight shift in its position with Kerala taking the lead.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Puducherry, which ranked third last week, reported a decline in cases. The number of infections there dropped from 13 to 10, and no new cases were reported this week.
