VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Monday expressed firm confidence that the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), led by the DMK in Tamil Nadu, remains robust and poised to achieve a sweeping victory in the upcoming 2026 State Assembly elections. He asserted that the alliance would return to power with an absolute majority.Dispelling doubts about the strength of the national-level INDIA bloc, Thirumavalavan responded to remarks made by former Union Minister P. Chidambaram, who had hinted at weakening ties within the alliance. âThe INDIA alliance is very much intact. In fact, under the stewardship of the DMK, the alliance has doubled its strength. Time will prove the alliance’s resilience,â Thirumavalavan said.
He reiterated that the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu is in a strong position and would emerge victorious in the 2026 elections. âThe people have witnessed the governance model and secular commitment of this front. We are confident of a massive mandate,â he added.
Turning his attention to the opposition, Thirumavalavan raised doubts about the continuity of the AIADMK-BJP alliance until the next Assembly polls. He pointed out the silence of allies like PMK and DMDK, questioning their current position and commitment to the front. âTheir future in the alliance is unclear,â he observed.
On another note, Thirumavalavan announced that the VCKâs proposed rally in defence of secularism, originally scheduled for May 31, has been postponed to June 14 due to unavoidable circumstances. âWe have invited all secular-minded forces to join this rally. Those who believe in the Constitution and secularism should express their solidarity by participating,â he urged.
The upcoming rally is expected to reaffirm the VCKâs commitment to secular values and showcase a united front among like-minded political parties ahead of the crucial electoral battle in 2026.
