Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has extended his heartfelt congratulations to renowned art director and production designer Thotta Tharani on being honored with the prestigious ‘Chevalier’ award by the French government.
The award ceremony was held at the French Cultural Centre in Chennai.In a public statement on his social media platform, Stalin expressed pride in Tharani’s achievement, noting that the honor places him among the great personalities of India who have previously received the distinguished title, including Satyajit Ray, Sivaji Ganesan, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Kamal Haasan.
Stalin lauded Tharani, an alumnus of the Government College of Fine Arts, for his contribution to arts and culture, highlighting his global recognition and acclaim. The Chief Minister also mentioned the deep pride felt in seeing Tharani’s works, notably the painting of social reformer Periyar unveiled at Oxford University, which has earned wide appreciation.
The ‘Chevalier’ award is one of France’s highest civilian honors, recognizing outstanding contributions in arts and culture. Stalin’s congratulatory message underscored the significance of this achievement, celebrating Tharani’s international stature and the honor it brings to Tamil Nadu and India.
