Chennai, Mar 31:
The Election Commission has officially allotted the “cooker” symbol to the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, providing clarity ahead of the crucial electoral battle.
The allocation comes as a significant development for the party led by T. T. V. Dhinakaran, which had consistently maintained that it would contest only under the cooker symbol. The symbol has been closely associated with the party in previous elections as well, helping establish its identity among voters.
With the Election Commission’s decision, AMMK cadres have received a boost, as the symbol plays a key role in voter recognition, especially in a state where visual identifiers are crucial in ballot-based elections. Party leaders had earlier expressed confidence that retaining the cooker symbol would strengthen their prospects in the polls.
The move also brings an end to any uncertainty surrounding the party’s election preparations, allowing it to proceed with campaign activities and candidate promotions without confusion. Symbol allocation has been a sensitive issue in Tamil Nadu politics, with several parties facing disputes or legal battles over their traditional symbols in the run-up to elections.
As the 2026 Assembly elections approach, the confirmation of symbols marks an important step in the electoral process, enabling parties like AMMK to sharpen their campaign messaging and reach out effectively to voters across constituencies.
