Chennai, Apr 13:

The Tamil Nadu Police have detailed how six individuals were tracked and arrested in connection with the online leak of Jana Nayagan, stating that a coordinated cyber investigation led to the crackdown on the piracy network.

According to an official release, the State’s Cyber Crime Wing registered a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Information Technology Act, Copyright Act and Cinematograph Act following complaints about the unauthorised leak of the film online.

Special teams were formed to identify infringing links, conduct digital forensic analysis and trace those involved in uploading and circulating the pirated content. Investigators found that the accused had used cloud storage platforms and shared drive links to distribute the film.

Based on digital evidence, six persons were arrested and their electronic devices seized. They were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.

Police said efforts are ongoing to curb further circulation, with around 300 piracy links already flagged for blocking. Continuous monitoring of social media platforms and file-sharing services is underway, while further investigations are in progress to identify others involved in the network.

Authorities also warned that uploading, sharing or downloading pirated content is a cognisable offence and urged the public to report such instances through official cybercrime channels.
