Chennai, May 22:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has postponed his maiden official visit to New Delhi by a day, with the trip now scheduled for Saturday. The visit, coming less than two weeks after he assumed office, is being closely watched as it is expected to set the tone for Centre-State relations under the new administration.
According to sources at Fort St George, Vijay is likely to hold a series of high-level meetings in the national capital, including with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Union ministers, constitutional authorities and prominent opposition leaders. The visit is seen as a strategic outreach aimed at strengthening political and administrative coordination.
Discussions with the Prime Minister and central ministers are expected to focus on key issues such as pending financial allocations to Tamil Nadu, major infrastructure projects, investment proposals and the policy priorities of the State government. Meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman are also likely, with schedules currently being finalised.
As part of official protocol, Vijay is expected to call on President Droupadi Murmu and Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan. In addition, sources indicate that he may meet senior Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi during his stay.
The visit is expected to play a crucial role in shaping early engagements between the Tamil Nadu government and the Union leadership, while also signalling Vijay’s broader political outreach at the national level.
