Pope Leo XIV has warned against the growing influence of artificial intelligence, saying technology must remain at the service of humanity and should not become a tool of domination or injustice.
Addressing French leaders during the beginning of his three-day visit to France, the Pope called for greater ethical awareness as AI becomes increasingly integrated into everyday life.
He warned that excessive dependence on artificial systems could weaken human relationships and undermine recognition of human dignity. He also stressed the importance of ensuring that technological progress is guided by ethical considerations.
The Pope’s remarks came during his first official visit to France, where he also addressed UNESCO officials in Paris. His comments added to a growing international debate over the social, ethical and economic consequences of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence.
