Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam (OPS) returned to Chennai today after a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. OPS described the meeting as a “courtesy call” focused on discussing the current political climate in Tamil Nadu, dismissing speculation about alliance talks or political maneuvering.Addressing recent defections, OPS said, “Sengottaiyan has left us. There’s nothing to speak about him,” referring to the senior AIADMK leader K.A. Sengottaiyan who recently parted ways.
OPS, who had contested and lost the Ramnad seat as part of the BJP-led alliance, has been distancing himself from the coalition amid wide speculation about his future political moves, including possibilities of launching a new party or realigning.
When pressed on whether the Delhi visit signals a return to the alliance, OPS avoided a direct answer, saying he would engage with Amit Shah again on political matters if needed but that respect was the primary reason for the visit.
