Actor Vijay Sethupathi on Monday shared a candid and humorous account of his early impressions of filmmaker Mysskin, admitting that he once thought the director was “a bit of a psycho” before eventually becoming one of his biggest admirers.
Speaking at the audio and teaser launch of Train, Sethupathi said he had noticed Mysskin during his days as a junior artiste and later avoided working with him despite receiving offers. “I would go to his office just to apologise and say I had no dates,” he said, recalling his initial hesitation
However, the actor said his perception changed completely after watching Mysskin’s film Psycho. He immediately reached out to the director, leading to a conversation that lasted nearly eight hours and marked the beginning of a close friendship. Sethupathi said they later collaborated briefly on Pisaasu 2 before working together on Train.
Describing the experience on the sets of Train, Sethupathi said the atmosphere was “like a wedding,” with Mysskin fostering a celebratory environment. He praised the director’s unique approach of recognising talent daily, including rewarding actors and technicians, saying the gesture boosted morale across the unit.
Calling the filmmaker generous and passionate, Sethupathi said working on Train was “a very romantic journey” filled with memorable moments.
